Create New Tabs for Twitter, Youtube, Flickr in Facebook

Facebook lets you create customized tabs for your Facebook fan page by using FBML and iframes. These customized tabs act primarily as an engagement-enhancer for your Facebook page and create more possibilities for attracting others to your page, then ultimately, to your blog or website.

However, there is a problem. Creating these tabs for a novice is a painful thing if you do not know about xFBML. There is too much jargon involved in the process for creating customized tabs.* However, Involver helps you to remove all these limitations.

Involver is a social media Start-Up that has provided applications and monitoring tools to over 180,000 brands to date. The best thing is that it also provides some excellent applications for Facebook users free of cost. Over the past two years, Involver has shifted its paradigm from a Online-Video gatewey to* Social Media marketer.

What are the situations in which involver may help you?

You can add Twitter streams, RSS Feeds, Youtube Channels, Scribd documents and much more to a Facebook Page with no coding.

Situation#1. You want to create dedicated tab for your Facebook page that will show all the posts of your blog in reverse-chronological order by using your blog’s RSS feed.

Situation#2.You want to create a new tab in your Facebook page that will show videos from your Youtube Channel in a very interactive way.

Situation#3. A tab showing your Flickr Photo stream in Facebook page in an elegant format.

Situation#4. A dedicated tab displaying the entire twitter phenomenon from your twitter account to your Facebook fan page.

Situation#5. Finally, Static HTML application allows rendering of HTML in a Facebook iframe. You can use it as a fan gateway to get Facebook Likes. To use a bit of jargon here, you can use WYSIWYG (what you-see-is-what-you-get) to make HTML without actually knowing HTML. Then you can put it to Static HTML App of Involver that will convert it to a Facebook iframe. You may use this as a welcome tab for your Facebook page.

These are some of the well-known apps to make your Facebook page more interactive for free. There are also plenty of other options available for Professional users and Enterprises.
How to implement?

Go to Involver applications page and choose which application you want to use with your Facebook page. Free users are allowed to use only two applications for a Facebook page. So, if you don’t want to spend a penny and still want to engage your audience and drive Likes, choose only two of these apps.

After selecting apps, click on install. It will lead you to your Facebook account. Choose page from the drop down list and add the application to your page. After that, fill your credentials (RSS feed address, YouTube channel, Flickr and twitter account information etc.) based on what kinds of app have been selected and you are ready to go. It will take a few minutes and these tabs will be in action.

CryEngine 3 Free SDK To Be Released By Crytek

Crytek is on a roll with yet another highly successful game released for their adoring fans (so what if it did not break computers?) and on the heels of the release of Crysis 2 comes the announcement of the Crysis 2 editor for the modding community to go wild with (considering that some of the finest mods in recent times were of the original game, Crysis).

But that was not all that CEO of Crytek, Cevat Yerli, had to say in the extensive open letter published for the Crytek modding community. Yerli also mentioned that a free CryENGINE SDK (Software Development Kit) will be released for modders who wish to go above and beyond the normal modding capabilities and wish to make an entirely new game while building on the resources available in Crysis 2.

The meaty part of the announcement, however was that modders will get free access to the CryENGINE 3 (for non-commercial use) in August 2011. In other words modders and budding game programmers will be given free access to the same engine that powers Crysis 2 and the engine that is widely regarded as the most powerful gaming engine currently available. In his own words, Yerli says:-

This will be a complete version of our engine, including C++ code access, our content exporters (including our LiveCreate real-time pipeline), shader code, game sample code from Crysis 2, script samples, new improved Flowgraph and a whole host of great asset examples, which will allow teams to build complete games from scratch for PC.

GDC 2009 – Mod DB

This is an extremely good piece of news for both the modding community as well as the consumers who thrive on the creativity of the modding community that has spawned many-a-gem of a game. (Counter Strike was a mod, if you remember!)

Radical Notion: Did The Early Universe Have Just One Dimension?

A radical new notion might kill nearly all inconsistencies in modern physics and cosmology in one fell swoop. Prof. Dejan Stojkovic, assistant physicist at Buffalo University and team has proposed the startling hypothesis that the nascent Universe may have had just one dimension. They suggest that the Universe begins to ‘grow’ dimensions as it expands and cools.

What exactly is the hypothesis?

The Big Bang theory suggests that the Universe began from an infinitesimal point and then expanded rapidly in all directions and in time. This new hypothesis would mean that the early Universe expanded in a straight line, and then into a plane and then into the three dimensions we see today.

The radical idea further suggests that as the energy density of the Universe falls (i.e. the Universe cools), more dimensions open up. A fourth spatial dimension might have already opened up at cosmological scales, opines Stojkovic.

Prof. Dejan Stojkovic

The team even suggests a test to verify this hypothesis. Since gravitational waves exist only in three spatial dimensions, they could not have existed in the very early Universe. Data from Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) should not detect any gravitational waves from that time. Since looking deeper in the Universe represents going further back in time, analyzing light from very far away should give verification.

However, gravitational waves are extremely hard to detect owing to their extremely small theoretical magnitude. Further, this is a negative test, which is not very good for a theory. The gravitational waves might just be there, but may be too feeble to detect.

How does this resolve inconsistencies?

Stojkovic claims that this notion may remove the incompatibility between quantum mechanics and general relativity. The idea might even solve the mystery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe. Stojkovic claims that addition of new dimensions would explain the accelerating expansion.

All that can be said about this idea is that it is radical, but untested. Many radical and beautiful ideas have gone out of the window, after failing to stand up to experimental tests. “If it disagrees with experiment, it’s wrong”.

Anti-Helium Nucleus: Heaviest Anti-Matter Particle Detected at RHIC, Brookhaven

Exciting news has been tumbling out of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), since today morning. Scientists have found the distinct signature of an anti-helium nucleus, the heaviest anti-matter particle detected till date. They can also figure out the production rates and compare them to theoretical values, verifying known calculations. This is big news!

Note the red line. This is the track made by the anti-helium nucleus.

Smashing Particles

The STAR collaboration at the RHIC, Brookhaven National Laboratories, smashed together extremely fast moving gold nuclei, *producing conditions similar to that of the hot, early Universe. Out of these billions of collisions, trillions of charged particles and anti-particles are produced.

The huge data sets are sifted through to identify the details of the particles and anti-particles produced. Generally, anti-matter are stable for long enough to be detected. They eventually collide with matter on the outer margins of the detector and get annihilated.

The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

The Data

Sifting through this particular dataset, the STAR team found at least 18-20 distinct ‘signatures’ of anti-helium(IV) nuclei. This is a bound state of two anti-protons and two anti-neutrons, having an overall double negative charge (just opposite to the helium(IV) nucleus, which is made up of two protons and two neutrons with an overall double positive charge). The data clearly shows the anti-He-3 (bound state 2 anti-protons and one anti-neutron) and anti-He-4 (bound state of two anti-protons and two anti-neutrons) peaks.

The graph obtained from the dataset. Note the anti-matter peaks (purple) overlapping the matter peaks (orange). Note also the slight difference in the energy at which the matter and anti-matter peaks are located. This slight shift in energy is due to CP violation and is vital to our very existence.

The exciting part

The exciting part is that the rate can also be measured. This rate is then compared with theoretical values. Scientists are ecstatic with the present data as the rates match theoretical predictions extremely well. This also augers well for an experimental project called Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), which will be sent to the International Space Station by early May this year. AMS is designed to search for anti-matter in space. This experiment by the STAR team will set the expected rates and provide a good calibration rate for comparisons for AMS. If there is anti-matter concentrated somewhere in the Universe, AMS will catch it. This will go a long way in explaining the asymmetry in the matter-antimatter production rates. (If anti-matter is produced at the same rate as matter, as predicted in theory and observed in the laboratories, why are we surrounded by only matter and not anti-matter?)

The Anti-Helium Nucleus. (Regard the red balls as anti-protons, carrying a unit negative charge and the blue balls being neutral anti-neutrons.)

The STAR collaboration is jubilant about the discovery and reckons that this will be the heaviest anti-particle detected for quite some time. The next heavy nucleus of anti-lithium is 2.25 times heavier and a trillion times rarer, at least theoretically. Finding such a particle is beyond today’s technology.

White iPhone Will Be Launched Worldwide on April 27

Thanks to innumerable delays, the fabled white iPhone has almost attained mythical status. However, the wait might finally be over. Earlier in the week, we had spotted an white iPhone 4 running a test build of iOS. Now, 9to5Mac has obtained the inventory list of BestBuy, which lists April 27 as the launch date for the white iPhone 4. Earlier, iPhoneItalia had claimed that the much awaited variant of the original iPhone 4 will be launched on April 26, while 9to5Mac had confirmed April 27 as the launch date in Netherlands.

In fact, one customer has already managed to snag a white iPhone, thanks to a goof-up by Vodafone UK staff. In a statement to WSJ, Apple had confirmed that the white iPhone will be launched this spring. However, the sudden flood of information suggests that retailers around the world have already started receiving shipments of the highly anticipated handset.

We would normally be cautious about getting too excited based on unconfirmed reports. However, the multitude of independent confirmations makes it likely that the white iPhone will indeed be launched next week. The pristine beauty of the white variant caught the attention of many a people around the world when it was first unveiled. However, the big question is, how potential buyers have already opted for the black edition? Apple repeatedly delayed the white iPhone 4, and failed to provide a concrete release date, or a satisfactory explanation for the delay. With iPhone 5 release being around the corner, many users might opt to wait it out.
