Gmail has just been added to Google Gears - the Google service that let you use its web apps offline - so you’ll be able to bash out Gmail emails without broadband!
Gmail Labs users will now be able to access their Gmail offline, as Google Gears will cache emails, so anyone with overflowing inboxes can plough through their messages anywhere they can take their computer, regardless of whether they can jump online or not.
It’s only in beta of course - even after four years Gmail itself is still in beta - and Google is only giving access to certain testers at the moment, but the option to keep working offline with background syncing is a great step towards a cloud computing utopia.
Google says it’ll be available to all US and UK Gmail users over the next few days, so we’ve yet to test the extent of its features (how much does it cache? How will search be affected?), but of course we’ll keep you posted.
