The Garmin-Asus partnership announced a new phone today, the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional-based nuvifone M20. The M20 has tri-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band HSDPA 3G radios, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It uses a software QWERTY keyboard for messaging features and ties many aspects of the phone’s functions to location-based services. Garmin-Asus says that the M20 integrates GPS into the calendar, contacts, email, and internet applications. The M20 will be preloaded with maps and points of interest, and can provide turn-by-turn directions. It has a 2.8-inch VGA display (640×480), a 3 megapixel that can geo-tag images, and either 4 or 8GB of on-board storage. Garmin is also introducing Ciao!, a new set of software that links GPS information to various social networks to help identify the whereabouts of friends and family. Pricing and availability will be announced later this year.
