Terrell Owens' future has been a source of much contentious discussion in Dallas for some time, and now, suddenly, he has been released by the Cowboys, according to Michael Smith of ESPN, as reported on SportsCenter.
Owens, of course, for all his talents, is one of the most controversial wide receivers in NFL history, and just as was the case with San Francisco and Philadelphia, the man known as T.O. will leave Dallas under a cloud of heavy scrutiny.
The reaction, obviously, is shock, because, for as many problems as Owens caused in Dallas, his talents on the field, where the game is played, were undeniable. Additionally, Jerry Jones hinted that Owens would remain a Cowboy, although hindsight tells us he might have tipped his hand in an earlier interview.
But clearly, in the end, Dallas felt that the notion of team, after last season's full-on personnel debacle, was more important than individual talent. Hence, the Cowboys appear to have released the oft-troubled wide receiver.
